The main system changes I have had in recent months are getting an SSD for my primary system drive and re-installing Windows on it (Starting from scratch, I didn't try to move my existing Windows installation or anything). I tried changing the USB port that my US-1800 is plugged into, between several different USB 2 and USB 3 ports, and it made no difference. I also disabled the US-1800 in Windows' audio settings to be sure that it wasn't trying to take it over for any reason. I disabled all Playback and Recording devices except those I use (my ASUS Xonar DX sound card and Plantronics Gamecom 780 headset) because some people said similar issues were fixed by disabling extra audio devices such as HDMI audio and onboard sound cards. I have no new software running in the background, and I tried exiting everything just in case. But this problem occurs regardless of what plugins, or how many plugins, I am using at the time. I also updated my VST plugins, of which I have a lot. I updated to the recent 2.05 drivers for the US-1800. Some of the issues reported have to do with not enough USB bandwidth because of other connected components-but the only different components I have are a new USB keyboard and mouse to replace my old USB keyboard and mouse, and my system has more than enough CPU resources available to negotiate USB connections. Obviously it could be driver issues, except that has always worked fine. I have been Googling for hours over the past few days. To fix it, I can go into the ASIO configuration for my US-1800 and switch the sample clock to Internal and then back to Automatic, which then makes it sound fine until somewhere between 30 seconds and a few minutes later when the problem returns. My sound starts to get really loud and clip badly, or get really staticy, or click and pop constantly during playback. Finally the other day I fired up REAPER and immediately I started having issues. I have spent the last 3 months working all the time without having a chance to work on music. I have a very powerful PC running Windows 8.1 with an Intel i7-3770k CPU and 16 GB of RAM. I have a Tascam US-1800 audio interface that I have used with REAPER for several years without a problem.
